Fridails: Inspired By Song

Blood red skies, I feel so cold...
What about us
Isn't it enough
No we're not in paradise
This is who we are
This is what we've got
No it's not our paradise
But it's all we want
And it's all that we're fighting for
Thought it's not paradise...
Within Temptation - Paradise (What About Us?)

This week's Fridails prompt was to get inspired by a song. I actually have a list of songs, after which I want to do nails. But after I went to the recent Within Temptation gig in Moscow, this task was a no-brainer for me. I loved the new album so much (it's a rare occasion for me that I like for than half of an album..under no circumstances could I ever imagine I would like the whole of it!), I was so impressed by their performance my nail art for this prompt HAD to be dedicated to them!

Tribute to figure skating

The 22th Winter Olympic games came to an end today in Sochi. While my studies kept me from actually going to Sochi, many of my friends were there, some of them working as volunteers. I can't wait for them to come back and tell me about everything!

No one expected such an outcome. Russia winning or placing, among other, in skeleton, snowboard, and, finally, biathlon and women figure skating! While I'm feeling so, so proud of all our sportsmen at the moment, I'm  particularily excited about our success in figure staking. This is no doubt my favorite kind of sport to watch and the one the most important and dear to my heart.

I've wanted to do a tribute to figure skating since the Olympics started, but my nails only grew out enough to me to shape them decently only now, but it's never too late, is it? I started with 2 coats of Kiko 834, then freehanded the silhouettes using white acrylic paint on my middle and ring fingers. I brushed on Dance Legend Steel Panther here and there for extra sparkle and magical feeling, on my pinky I painted a coat of Golden Rose Holiday 71, and on my pointer I stamped with Kiko 616 and Bundle Monster BM-319 stamping plate. I finished everything off with 2 coats of Eva Glass Shine top coat to smooth out somewhat lumpy acrylic paint.

Fridails: Valentine's Day

This week's choice of theme for Fridails was pretty obvious...while some of us are single and are not celebrating this year, V-day is everywhere and we couldn't ignore it. What we could do, though, is have an alternative take on it. Valentine's doesn't have to be just about love to one's second half and hearts and pinks and reds?
So here's my confession: I love a lot of things about life. I love Batman, photography, dogs (especially my dear 3-yo labrador Maurice...if only he was human :D) and a glass of wine. And, of course, I love nail art, brights and pastels. All of these things were reflected in my nails for this week's Fridails. The base color is 4 coats of China Glaze Sun Of A Peach* (full review coming soon), and I stamped over it with Kiko 389, a bright yet pastel mint creme (of course, it came out not as saturated as it's actually is, but that's what one's come to expect of stamping with a light color over a neon, albeit pastel as well), and MoYou London Pro 06 stamping plate*. I sealed the finished look with a coat of Eva Glass Shine top coat.

Also, please welcome my right aka cinderella hand, who's going to act as the model hand while my left one is dealing with her issues (read: some really bad nail break, I even had to round them :( )

Eva Glass Shine.

Holiday Memories nail art

Here's my manicure for the final week of Holiday nail art challenge held by Nail Polish Canada, and the theme is holiday memories - that is, everything we love about holidays.

I didn't have a fixed idea in my head, so I went for skittles again and represented everything I could think of and what I associate with holidays. A snowman, fireworks, yummy candy canes and, of course, presents!

Naturally, I ended up using a bunch of polishes:
Angel 561
Colorist 240
Essie Blanc
Essie Pretty Edgy
I Love Nail Polish My Private Rainbow
Kiko 238
Kiko 628
Sally Hansen White On White
Zoya Arizona
Zoya Natty
Zoya Ziv

I also used striping tape, several nail art brushes and Bundle Monster BM-323 stamping plate.
Bundle Monster BM-323.

If you liked my mani, I would appreciate it if you voted for me here!

Christmas decorations skittles nail art

Last week I signed up for the Nail Polish Canada Holiday nail art challenge. Unfortunately, I missed the first week of the contest, however, there are still two left!

This week's theme is Decorations, which quite a room for imagination. First I painted 2 coats of Kiko 255 on all nails, which represented the beauty of night sky in my mind, then went for a skitlette of tinsel on my sad broken pointer (Bundle Monster BM-222 stamping plate and Kiko 628), a fir-tree on the middle finger (freehanded with Kiko 626) decorated with hand-placed glitter from Dollish Polish Little Miss Know It All, a gingerbread man on the ring finger (also Bundle Monster BM-222 stamping plate and Kiko 628), some hoarfrost on my pinky (Dance Legend Steel Panther applied on the tip using a cosmetic sponge). On my thumb I simply applied a layer of Dollish Polish Little Miss Know It All.
Dollish Polish Little Miss Know It All, на безымянном тоже стемпинг - имбирный пряник-человечек при помощи все тех же Bundle Monster BM-222 stamping plate and Kiko 628. Dollish Polish Little Miss Know It All.

I really like the festive look of these, despite the fact that I'm not usually the one for holiday nail art (I lost my Christmas/New Year spirit a couple of years ago and it still hasn't made a reappearance). It was quite easy and fun to do, although the gingerman cost me a struggle - the polish dried reeeeally fast on the stamping plate, so I had to move around like a lighting :D

If you liked my mani, I would appreciate it if you voted for me here!

Fridails: Gradient

This week our theme for Fridails is gradients as we continue doing the 31DC tasks at our own pace. Alena, however, introduced an additional requirement that our manis include at least 2 different color combinations. My take is pretty simple and features one of my most favorite color schemes - taupe, blue and gold/copper. Namely Zoya Jana for the darker shade of taupe, Essie Miss Fancy Pants for the lighter, and Kiko 340 for the light blue color accent. Unfortunately, the darker/lighter taupe gradient that's on my pinky and ring fingers isn't as visible as in real life due to light positioning, but it's there :D I will share an iPhone photo tomorrow (@vicerimus if you don't follow me but want to check out), on which it can be seen in its full glory (yes, I love this mani and I feel no shame!). So as to add an extra something to the mani and also smooth out any possible uneveness caused by the gradient technique, I applied a coat of Dollish Polish R.O.U.S., I Don't Think They Exist, which is a gorgeous copper glitter topper also bearing occasional holo particles and drying to a surprisingly smooth finish, on top of my nail art, and finished everything off with a coat of top coat.
Dollish Polish R.O.U.S., I Don't Think They Exist,

Check out Alena's blog, The Polishing Life, for her version of the mani as well as Maria's of So Marvellous, our new member. And guess what? Her blog is also bilingual, so put aside your Russian-English dictionary (well, not that I'm discouraging you from learning Russian :)))

Monday Blues: chrome stamping

I haven't posted a mani on Monday Blues for far too long. Here are nails I did the other day for blue Friday flashmob on Instagram, so they're pretty appropriate. I started with 2 coats of Nubar Boyfriend Jeans, which is a dusty medium blue thin creme, applied a coat of fast dry top coat to speed up the drying process, and when the base color was try, stamped over it with Kiko 623 (blue one coater chrome) and Bundle Monster BM-210 stamping plate. I finished the mani with another coat of top coat in light strokes to prevent smudging.

Sunday Stamping: Inspired by water

The theme for this week's Sunday Stamping in the Adventures in Stamping group on Facebook is Inspired by water, so I started off with 2 coats of a beautiful untried of mine, Picture Polish Ocean. I took photos of it on its own, too, so hopefully I'll put up a review of it. When it dried, Then I stamped using Kiko 625 (light blue chrome) and 616 (silver chrome) and Cheeky CH38 (for the dolphin pattern) and CH49 (for the ship pattern) stamping plates. I finished the manicure with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat, applying it in 3 really light strokes so as not to smudge the stamping.

Fridails: Rainbow

I've always been eyeing those flashmobs/challenges/I don't know how to call them, like Digital Dozen and Twinsie Tuesday, where several nail polish lovers/nail artists will each come up with a mani on a set theme daily/weekly/monthly. I think that really encourages you to get out of your comfort zone, plus it's just so much more fun to do it with someone rather than on one's own. So, a couple of days ago Alena of The Polishing Life and I agreed we would have such an activity, too, and from now on, every Friday (if nothing gets in either her or my way) we're going to share our takes on the same theme. The name for the activity is Frinails (invented by yours truly, so I take full responsibility if the name sounds silly for native speakers, but Lord knows I love inventing new words...in any language).

Our first theme is 'rainbow', and to make things a bit more challenging, the design had have a graphic, crisp rather than smooth quality to it. My take is a striping tape nail art. I started with 2 coats of Essie Blanc and a coat of fast dry top coat. When that dried fully, I applied striping tape and started filling the gaps between it using a small brush. As I finished filling the gaps with 2 colors, I removed the tape separating them (i.e. between red, orange and yellow, yellow and green etc.). To smooth out the design I applied another coat of top coat (holding my breath and with my tongue sticking out of my mouth so as not to smudge anything :D), and, to add more sparkle to the look (and to contribute to the theme even more), painted on a coat of I Love Nail Polish My Private Rainbow (Scattered), which is a scattered holo topper. I really enjoyed these nails, they were totally a boost of good mood on a rainy day!
I Love Nail Polish My Private Rainbow (Scattered),

Here's the list of polishes I used for the colors:
Violet/фиолетовый - Essence nail art twins 02 Romeo

See Alena's take on the theme here! By the way, her blog is bilingual, too :)
