Swatching Dance Legend Holodays collection made me realise I haven't seen the sun for the past week or so, which is one of the reasons why I dislike winter. But hey, we've got electricity, so winter cannot stop us from enjoying holo effect!

Fridails: Animal print

It's Fridails, and today Alena, Maria and I are showing you animal print manis! As for the additional requirement..no leopards. But leopards as in Panthera pardus, no more, no less. And since I'm taught to be a professional cheater (:D) lawyer, I took advantage of the loophole in the wording. 

Время Fridails, и сегодня Алена, Маша и я показываем маникюры с использованием животного принта! А дополнительным условием являлось то, что нельзя было делать леопардовый маникюр. Но только речь шла о леопарде как о виде. Вот я формулировкой и воспользовалась :)

To be honest, animal print is not my most favorite one. And leopard print isn't my favorite by far (too many women in Russia have really abused it by wearing tacky leopard clothes, so I'm sort of allergic to leopard print :D). But black and white, that's a slightly different story. Snow leopard is a magnificent and beautiful animal (so is regular leopard), and the black&white combo makes the pattern quite wearable for me. You can never go wrong with black and white! And it fit the theme and met the additional requirement, as from the point of view of zoology, all the regular leopard and snow leopard have in common is the word 'leopard', while genetically snow leopard is closer to tiger and is singled out in its own genus, Uncia Uncia (please mind that I'm referring to the Russian sources as I'm writing this, which may differ from those in English). 

Честно признаться, животный принт - не самой мой любимый. И уж тем более не леопардовый (у меня на него что-то вроде аллергии из-за того, что уж очень наши женщины любят именно его, и в большинстве это, к сожалению, смотрится бесвкусно, так что оскомина присутствует). Но в черно-белом варианте я неожиданно хорошо восприняла его на ногтях. Мое животное на сегодня  - это ирбис, или снежный барс, прекрасный и величественный. И в тему, и дополнительному условию удовлетворяет, поскольку с точки хрения зоологии с лопардом его объединяет разве что слово leopard в названии, ведь генетически ирбис довольно близок....к тигру, и выделяется в отдельный вид. 

I started with 2 coats of Essie Blanc, waited for that to dry, then stamped on with a Colorama black polish (will look up the number later) and Bundle Monster BM-221 stamping plate. Finally, I applied a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat, and that was it! 

Я начала маникюр с 2 слоев Essie Blanc, дождалась высыхания, затем сделала стемпинг черным кремом Colorama при помощи диска для стемпинга Bundle Monster BM-221. Наконец, я закрепила маникюр слоем Sally Hansen Insta-Dri, ну и все :)

El Corazon 423/81 Dalmatian swatches, review & comparison

The polish that reminds me of oh-so-tasty cookies Oreo which, sadly, I've never seen in Moscow, but never fail to indulge myself to whenever I'm abroad. El Corazon 423/81 Dalmatian is a white jelly infused with fine matte black shimmer resemblimg chocolate bits. Formula was easy-flowing, although I did find 3 coats necessary for an even surface. Dry time is average for this polish, so fast drying top coat was a must for me. Longevility was a killer - I wore this manicure for 3 days and didn't get a single chip...well, that is until I picked the polish off my nails (yes, I know, it's a terrible habit and I've mostly got rid of it but I still get relapses at extreme situations).

Лак этот напоминает мне о наивкуснейших печеньках Oreo, которые я ни разу не видела в Москве, поэтому не упускаю случая побаловать ими себя, когда оказываюсь за границей. El Corazon 423/81 Dalmatian - это белое желе с мелким матовым черным шиммером, напоминающим шоколадную крошку. Наносится легко, хотя для непозрачности и ровного цвета базы мне потребовалось 3 слоя. Однако время высыхания лака среднее, так что для меня-торопыжки слой сушки был в порядке вещей. Но стойкость у лака убийственная: я проносила этот маникюр 3 дня без единого скола...пока не отколупала его с ногтей. Да, я знаю, ужасная вредная привычка, и я от нее в целом избавилась, но в экстремальных ситуациях случаются рецидивы.

I have an indie polish in the same vein as Dalmatian - The Hungry Asian Cookies&Cream, but they're a far cry from being dupe to each other. There's much more shimmer in Dalmatian, and the white looks ever so slightly grey-ish when compared to Cookies&Cream. Cookies&Cream also needs 3 coats to reach an even surface. 

У меня есть инди-лак из той же оперы - The Hungry Asian Cookies&Cream, однако различаются они между собой ощутимо. Концентрация черного шиммера в нем меньше, а цвет базы Dalmatian выглядит, как будто в него добавили самую каплю серого, в то время как Cookies&Cream кипельно-белый. Для непрозрачности "индюку", как и Далматинцу, требуется 3 слоя.

El Corazon 423/96 & 423/98 swatches & review

I've had some major issues with my laptop lately, these days Google Chrome just wouldn't load anything and Firefox is working at a pace of a snail, also facing some troubles in the process. I can't really figure out what the problem is at the moment, anyway, I'm writing this post, hoping that it will load onto the blog! 

В последнее время с моим ноутбуком творится что-то очень неладное, Хром не грузит сайты вообще, а Мозилла работает со скоростью улитки, параллельно постоянно выдавая ошибки. В чем корень зла, я пока понять не могу, так что пишу этот пост и очень надеюсь, что он вообще прогрузится в блог!

Today I've got another 2 El Corazons to show to you, namely 423/96 (glitter in a white base) and 423/98 (the base color is dusty light blue). Both of them are crellies with matte black hex glitter and small dots (glitter? shimmer? glimmer? I'm not sure how to properly name it), and they looked really great together in the bottles, so I thought I'd do a duo manicure with them. 2 coats for opacity for each of them plus a coat of topcoat to smooth everything out. Since I used a peel-off base for this manicure, removal was a non-hassle, but you will probably need to resort to the old good foil method if you shy away from peel-offs. 

Сегодня я покажу еще 2 лака El Corazon, а именно 423/96 (глиттер в белой базе) и 423/98 (база здесь припыленного голубого цвета). База обоих - это крелли (или крем-желе), а в ней плавают матовые черные шестиугольники и точечки (глиттер, глиммер, шиммер? Не знаю, как их лучше описать). Лаки очень здорово смотрелись вместе в бутылочках, так что я решила сочесть их в двойном маникюре. Для непрозрачности каждого потребовалось 2 слоя, плюс слой топа сверху, чтобы выровнять поверхность. Поскольку я использовала пил-офф базу, со снятием маникюра у меня проблем не было, но если вы их сторонитесь, возможно, вам придется прибегнуть к снятию при помощи фольги. 

I believe it's also worth mentioning that the glitter tends to settle down in the bottles, so if you want more of it on you nails (or they are longer than mine, hence you need more), just give the bottle a good shake for more payoff. 

Думаю, стоит также упомянуть, что глиттер в этих лаках имеет тенденцию оседать на донышке, так что если его хочется на ногтях побольше (или ваши ногти подлиннее моих, так что и глиттера вам надо больше), просто потрясите бутылочку несколько секунд, и количество блесток, попадающих на кисточку, увеличится. 

Darling Diva Polish Lucky Star

Today I'm showing you the first polish I've received for review from an aamerican indie brand Darling Diva Polish (DDP). Carrie, the founder of the brand, does some fantastic holos (she's also the mastermind behind the famous Max Factor Fantasy Fire indie dupe, DDP Ringer) as well as glitters, shimmers and even termos and glow in the darks - the polish I'm talking about here is one! 

Сегодня я показываю первый из полученных на обзор лаков от американского инди-бренда Darling Diva Polish. В ассортименте марки - голографики, глиттеры, термо-лаки и даже лаки светящиеся в темноте. Кстати, один из самых популярных и точных инди-клонов небезызвестного Max Factor Fantasy Fire - Ringer - тоже работа создательницы DDP Кэрри. 

Not long ago, Darling Diva Polish has released a collection of polishes named after and inspired by Madonna's songs. DDP Lucky Star is a part of the collection and is a mix of neon lime and black star glitter as well as pink neon square glitter of 2 sizes in a milky white, glow-in-the-dark jelly base. Application was fine, you do have to be careful with it, since you may end up with patches due to the jelly nature of the base, bu that's characteristic of any jelly, so nothing extraordinary here. If you want to have more control of where the stars go, you may want to fish for them and place them with the brush, but overall they come out of the bottle and onto the brush pretty well on their own. If you feel like more stars, just give the bottle a couple of shakes. I would also recommend avoiding getting neon lime stars on the nails at the first coat, and here's why. The base requires 3 good coats to reach opacity (with slightest visible nail line), so you're going to end up with 2 coats of milky white over the lime stars, which will make them almost insivible. Or you can start with a jelly/crelly/creme white undie (depending on whether you want the squishy feeling as you've finished your mani), then the number of coats of Lucky Star you apply comes down to how much glitter you want on the nails.

DDP Lucky Star - один из ее представителей, представляет собой молочно-белое желе, светящееся в темноте, а в нем глиттер-звездочки двух цветов, черного и неонового лаймового, и неоновых розовых квадратиков двух размеров. С нанесением стоит быть поаккуратнее - желейная основа в принципе склонна к плешивости, ничего необычного здесь нет, но в целом лак довольно послушный. Если хотите контролировать расположение звездочек на ногтях, то можно его вылавливать кисточкой, но и сам он попадается довольно регулярно. Хотите больше глиттера - пару раз встряхните бутылек, а перед покрасом на несколько минут поставьте вниз головой. Я бы советовала не допускать появления лаймовых звезд на первом слое, и вот почему. Базовому цвету необходимо 3 слоя для относительной непрозрачности (линия улыбки все равно чуть-чуть угадывается через покрытие), так что поверх звездочек в таком случае будет лежать 2 молочных слоя, которые делают их почти невидимыми. Или же вы можете нанести Lucky Star на белую подложку, кремовую, крелли или желейную, тогда число слоев будет зависеть от того, как много глиттера вы хотите видеть на ногтях. 

I used to be quite indifferent to shaped glitter, but this polish has changed my mind drastically. Now I can't get enough of stars, and Lucky Star has surely become one of the brightest stars of my nail polish stash :)

Happy Independence Day, United States! featuring Shimmer Polish Nichole

First of all, happy 4th of July to all my American followers! It's amusing and embarrassing that I had to double check my own country's day (which is June 12), and I didn't celebrate it with a patriotic mani or anything, but wake me in the middle of the night and I'll tell you that the Independence Day of the US is the 4th of July on the spot. I couldn't miss on this one!

Сегодня американцы отмечают День Независимости, и всех моих русскоговорящих читателей, если такие вдруг есть, я и на русском поздравляю с этим праздником! Смешно и немного стыдно, что дату дня своей страны я помню, но для уверенности все равно прогуглила, ну и специального "патриотичного" маникюра не делала, зато разбудите меня среди ночи и спросите, когда в Америке День Независимости, я вам отвечу, ни секунды не сомневаясь. Ну и да, на ногтях я это дело тоже отметила.

Luckily, I had a Shimmer Polish sitting in my to-swatch box I thought suited the occasion perfectly, so choice of polish was a no-brainer. I pulled out Shimmer Polish Nichole and started comparing my reds and blues with the glitter in Nichole, looking for the closest matches. The winners were OPI Vodka&Caviar, a perfect 2-coater jelly, and Rimmel Blue Eyed Girl, a 1-2-coater cream. 

Очень кстати пришлось, что в моей коробке лаков на обзор как раз дожидался своего часа лак Shimmer Polish, который прекрасно подходил поводу, так что над выбором главного героя маникюра думать вообще не пришлось. Вытащила я его на свет божий и стала сравнивать имеющиеся у меня красные и синие лаки с цветом глиттера в Nichole, наиболее близкими соответствиями оказались хит OPI Vodka&Caviar, идеальное желе-двухслойник, и Rimmel Blue Eyed Girl, крем, который легко укладывается в 1-2 слоя. 

Shimmer Polish Nichole, in my opinion, is a must have glitter for every American nail polish addict (and also for those of every country that shares the white-blue-red tricolor, including Russia :P). It consists of blue hexes of 2 sizes, bigger and smaller, red and silver smaller hexes, the silves ones also bearing holographic qualities, tiny squares in all three colors and, finally, fine silver holo shimmer that gives the polish an extra bling, all that in a transparent base. Folmula was, as usual, perfect, glitter glides on effortlessly and evenly, and if you do not like the way the glitter's spreaded, you can easily manipulate it with the brush. Once left undisturbed, the polish dries fairly quickly and requires only 1 coat of top coat for a completely smooth surface. Photos show 1 coat of Nichole over a white base color on my middle and ring fingers, and I did a quick and simple glitter gradient on the rest ones.

Считаю, что глиттер Shimmer Polish Nichole - маст-хэв для любого американского лакоманьяка, да и вообще для любого, чья страна использует в государственной символике бело-сине-красный триколор (и Россия в том числе). Состоит лак из синего шестиугольного глиттера двух размеров, побольше и поменьше, также шестиугольники поменьше присутствуют в красном и серебряном цветах, а серебряные на солнце еще и голографируют. Еще здесь маленькие квадратики всех трех цветов, ну а приправлен этот микс серебряным голографическим шиммером, вся эта радость в прозрачной базе. Технические характеристики у лака прекрасные, глиттера набирается на кисточку достаточно, и распределяется он по поверхности ногтя очень легко, а если даже и образовались места скопления, которые мозолят вам глаз, то они в два счета "разгоняются" кистью. Как только поверхность оставлена в покое, лак очень быстро сохнет, а для идеальной гладкости требует только одного слоя топа. На фото на безымянном и среднем пальцах - по 1 слою Nichole на белой подложке, на остальных пальцах - растяжка глиттером.

Monday Blues: Gzhel

Today's blue mani was inspired by a type of traditional Russian craft, Gzhel. Its most recongizable trait is the iconic painting technique that uses only 2 colors, white and blue. Read more info about it here, that would make more sense than me, since I'm no Arts student :) 

Давно уже хотела сделать маникюр по мотивам техники росписи под гжель. И вот наконец задумку исполнила :)

The blue is 2 coats of China Glaze Man Hunt, the white is Sally Hansen White On (2 coats, too), and I stamped over with Man Hun and Bundle Moster BM-221 stamping plate. 

В маникюре я использовала 2 слоя China Glaze Man Hunt, в качестве белой подложки под стемпинг - Sally Hansen White On в 2 слоя, а сам стемпинг сделан при участии Man Hunt и диска для стемпинга Bundle Monster BM-221. 

Bayern Munchen

Here's my yesterday's mani dedicated to the team I've been a dedicated supporter of since 2006, the year I first showed interest in football, from the city I would gladly agree to live in. The team has had its ups and downs, it has faced worship and hate of thousands of football fans all around the world. Last two years were deafening: they were this close to winning Champions League, yet victory kept slipping through their fingers. Finally, Bayern Munchen holds it. And althought they certainly could have played better yesterday, they deserve it like no one else. 

Хочу показать свой вчерашний маникюр, посвященный команде, за которую я болею с 2006 года (год, когда начала интересоваться футболом), из города, в котором я с радостью бы жила. У команды были взлеты и падения, она сталкивалась с обожанием и ненавистью футбольных фанатов всего мира (со вчерашних слов комментатора, против нее болели фанаты всех команд Бундеслиги)) так это или нет, но я видела несколько опросов Вконтакте на тему "за кого вы сегодня", и Боруссия имела преимущество где-то в 2 раза). 2 последних года были оглушающими - 2 раза команда подходила вплотную к победе в Лиге Чемпионов, но она ускользала сквозь пальцы. Наконец, она в руках Баварии. И хотя вчера, я знаю, они могли играть лучше, больше них ее не заслужил никто. 

The red is Nails Inc. St James (2 coats), the white is Sally Hansen White On (2 coats), the blue is Brooklin 29, stamped with Bundle Monster BM-319 stamping plate. The stripes are golden striping tape from Born Pretty Store, and the number 31 (Schweinsteiger's number) was freehanded with a gold gel pen. I sealed the mani with a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast, which made everything nice and smooth, however, when I started applying it on my ring finger, right after doing so with my pinkie, remnants of red lacquer, which apparently were left on the brush, ended up on my nails, so I used Seche Vite on my ring fingers instead, but I couldn't do anything about the little spot of red. It's not that visible, so I let it be, please excuse its presence on the photos.

Золотые полосы сделаны с помощью золотой ленты для нейл-арта, ну а 31, номер Швайнштайгера, я нарисовала от руки золотой гелевой ручкой :) Весь маникюр я закрепила слоем топа Cult Nails Wicked Fast, который сгладил неизбежно появившиеся неровности, но ногда я начала наносить его на безымянный палец, остатки красного лака попали с кисточки на ноготь, так что я тут же отложила его, использовав на остальные красные ногти, а для безымянных использовала Seche Vite, хотя пятнышко он, конечно, не убрал. Но в глаза это не сильно бросается, так что я решила, что пусть живет. За присутствие его на фотографиях извиняюсь :)

Sadly, I'll have to part with it today, since my boyfriend stood with the supporters of Borussia Dortmund, and he's upset enough that Bayern's won, and while that won't stop me from mocking him tomorrow (he would do the same thing, had Borussia won, anyway :P), I'm going to spare his nerves here :D Still wearing red, white and gold tomorrow, though!

К сожалению, с маникюром своим я сегодня расстаюсь, потому что молодой человек у меня вчера вдруг решил болеть за Боруссию, так что ему, в принципе, победы Баварии хватило. И хотя от подколов его это завтра не спасет (а что, он бы то же самое делал, если бы Боруссия вчера выиграла >)), здесь я его нервы пощажу. А приду в красно-бело-золотом :D

Ocean & Frangipani

So this is a nail art I did for this contest. The task was to get inspired by provided pictures and do a manicure. When I first looked at the Pinterst board, I instantly fell with this pin, but I could resist mixing it with another one, as the flowers on it reminded me of my favorite kind - frangipani. The background, representing the ocean, is a gradient of Sally Hansen White On, Nubar Baby Blue and Faded Jeans, and the flowers were freehanded using the one-stroke technique and the Sally Hansen polish and China Glaze Happy Go Lucky. All topped with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat. 

Сегодня я покажу нейл-арт, который сделала для этого конкурса. Были предоставлены изображения, по мотивам которых и надо было придумать маникюр. Одна картинка мне понравилась сразу, но я не удержалась и смешала ее еще с одной, цветы на которой напомнили мне мои любимые - франжипани (они же плюмерия). Фоном, который представляет океан, служит градиент из Sally Hansen White On, Nubar Baby Blue и Faded Jeans, а цветы я нарисовала вручную в технике одного мазка и лаков White On и China Glaze Happy Go Lucky. Маникюр покрыт слоем сушки Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. 

The Lazy 15! Where I'm from

Today we're supposed to do nails inspired by where we are from. I was born and live in Moscow, Russia, as you may know. So i could do a straight Russian tricolor - except for I didn't really want to. Firstly, because many other countries' flags are in the same color scheme and they can be easily confused, and, secondly, I don't really like where my country is going. It's not my intention to go deep into politics or history, so let me limit my explanation to saying that it's been my strong belief for a long time that Russia has been doomed since 1917, when the monarchy was overthrown. Was it possible, I would have loved to live in the 19th century, under the reign of Alexander II. 

Сегодняшняя тема - откуда мы родом. Как вы можете знать, я родилась и живу в Москве. Так что я могла сделать простой российский триколор, но я, честно говоря, не очень хотела. Во-первых, наш флаг можно легко спутать с другими - цветовая гамма крайне популярная, а во-вторых, в виду моего отношения касательно положения дел в стране на данный момент. Не хочу углубляться в блоге ни в историю, ни в политику, но я уже довольно давно считаю, что страна наша обречена с самого 1917 года. Если бы было можно выбрать, в каком времени жить, я бы выбрала период царствования Александра II.

So on my ring finger is a so-called imperial flag, which was the flag of the Russian Empire from 1858 till 1883(1896), but only official authorities could use it - private individuals had the white-blue-red flag everyone knows as the Russian flag. The imperial flag, however, has become the symbol of the Russian Empire to modern people. As for the rest of my nails, I was inspired by the Russian hussar uniform, particularily that of the Alexandria regiment.

На ногте безымянного пальца изображен так называемый "Имперский флаг", официальный флаг Российской Империи с 1858 по 1883(1896) год, использовавшийся правительственными учреждениями. Дизайн остальных ногтей был вдохновлен униформой Александрийского гусарского полка. 

For the manicure I used a plain black creme (my usual Sophin Ceramic 02), Zoya Creamy, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On and a silver line chain from Born Pretty Store. Everything was sealed with INM OTD.

31 days challenge. Day 7: black&white nails

First of all, I'm officially of age now! Can't buy strong alcohol like vodka or tequila 'till i'm 21, but as for the rest it's a carte-blanche :)

This day's been preventing me from going on with the 31DC for too long. For some reason I found it so hard to create a black&white look, though I love the way these 2 basic colors look together and there are so many nail art ideas out there. But when my BornPrettyStore order arrived, I knew I couldn't keep putting it off anymore.

First I wanted to stick on some lace, then stamp (yes, my stamping plates from Llarowe've arrived!), then do stripes...this is what I ended up doing - a look inspired by one of Lucy's Stash manicures. 

I started by painting on 2 coats of Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White on, then, using dotting tools of different sizes, dotted 3 black dots in descending order (i'm using Sophin Ceramic 02) and, finally, applied golden round studs in 3 different diameters from BornPrettyStore with a pair of tweezers. I finished the manicure with a generous coat of INM Out The Door to seal and prolong it. You need to be really careful with this step, because there's a change of smudging your pretty nails if you're not.

Thoughts: I want to touch my nails all the time :D And I received a ton of comments from men today, which means success to me :)
