Within Temptation - Paradise (What About Us?)

This week's Fridails prompt was to get inspired by a song. I actually have a list of songs, after which I want to do nails. But after I went to the recent Within Temptation gig in Moscow, this task was a no-brainer for me. I loved the new album so much (it's a rare occasion for me that I like for than half of an album..under no circumstances could I ever imagine I would like the whole of it!), I was so impressed by their performance my nail art for this prompt HAD to be dedicated to them!

Но недавно я была на концерте одной из своих самых любимых групп, Within Temptation, и после него вопроса, чью песню делать, не стояло. Такого удовольствия от концерта я еще ни разу не получала! И никогда мне не нравился альбом целиком, максимум половина. 

Fridails: stripes

It's Friday, which means more nail art! Our theme at Fridails this week is stripes, and the additional requirement was to combine at least 2 techniques in one nail art. I chose to do gradient stamping...and failed miserably. I mean, I managed the gradient and the image did stamp, but I just couldn't make the lines 100% straight (due to my stamper being too squishy or my wrong hands, I know not). I tried to mask that by freehanding golden stripes on top, but I'm not sure if I made things better or worse. It's not that visible from the distance, of course, but up close and personal it's a different story. Well, everyone has bad nail days, right? 

Сегодня пятница, а значит, новый нейл-арт! Темой Fridails на этой неделе были полоски, усложняющим элементом - сочетание минимум 2 техник в дизайне. Я решила сделать градиентный стеминг...ну а получилось, что получилось. Градиент-то у меня получился и изображение пропечаталось, но ровными линии у меня сделать не получилось, то ли штамп слишком мягкий, то ли руки кривые, уж не знаю. Я попыталась это замаскировать, нарисовав поверх золотые полоски, но сделала, по-моему, только хуже. Ну что ж, у всех бывают неудачные дни...

What I used for this manicure:

I also topped everything with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat.

Fridails: Gradient

This week our theme for Fridails is gradients as we continue doing the 31DC tasks at our own pace. Alena, however, introduced an additional requirement that our manis include at least 2 different color combinations. My take is pretty simple and features one of my most favorite color schemes - taupe, blue and gold/copper. Namely Zoya Jana for the darker shade of taupe, Essie Miss Fancy Pants for the lighter, and Kiko 340 for the light blue color accent. Unfortunately, the darker/lighter taupe gradient that's on my pinky and ring fingers isn't as visible as in real life due to light positioning, but it's there :D I will share an iPhone photo tomorrow (@vicerimus if you don't follow me but want to check out), on which it can be seen in its full glory (yes, I love this mani and I feel no shame!). So as to add an extra something to the mani and also smooth out any possible uneveness caused by the gradient technique, I applied a coat of Dollish Polish R.O.U.S., I Don't Think They Exist, which is a gorgeous copper glitter topper also bearing occasional holo particles and drying to a surprisingly smooth finish, on top of my nail art, and finished everything off with a coat of top coat.

Тема Fridails этой недели - градиент, так как мы продолжаем в своем неторопливом темпе выполнять задания 31DC. Алена, дабы нам жизнь медом не казалась, ввела дополнительное условие - в маникюре должно сочетаться не менее 2 разных цветовых сочетаний, то есть не менее 3 цветов. Я в этот раз пошла по простому пути, а маникюр мой представлен одной из самых моих любимых цветовых схем - таупом (молочно-коричневый, он же грибной),  голубым и золотым/медным в качестве акцента. В качестве более темного оттенка таупа использована Zoya Jana, более светлого - Essie Miss Fancy Pants, голубого - Kiko 340. К сожалению,монохромный тауповый градиент на моем мизинце и безымянном пальцах на фото не так заметны, как в жизни, из-за постановки света для фота, но поверьте мне, он там есть :D Завтра в Инстаграме выложу рулесвотч на айфон, где маникюр можно хорошенько рассмотреть при естественном освещении (здесь отдаю должное яблочной камере, свет тянет на ура даже при мерзкой московской погоде). А чтобы добавить маникюру изюминку, а также сгладить неровности покрытия, которые часто вызывает техника градиента, я нанесла поверх дизайна слой Dollish Polish R.O.U.S., I Don't Think They Exist, медного глиттерного топа, в котором также есть голографические частицы, который, к вящему моему удивлению, высыхает в абсолютно гладкую при прикосновении (и уж тем более на взгляд) поверхность. Маникюр, как всегда, завершила слоем топа-сушки.

Monday Blues: OPI Fly & Shimmer Julie

All i want to use these days are bright colors, glitter and different finishes. Which is right on time, because I've recently received a package from Shimmer Polish with whopping 10 bottles of nail polish to review! I swear to you, they're all so beautiful I could wear only them for the rest of my life. :D

В последнее время в маникюре мне хочется ярких цветов, глиттера и интересных текстур. Как раз вовремя мне пришли на обзор неописуемой красоты американские инди-лаки Shimmer в количестве аж 10 штук! Клянусь, я могла бы ходить только в них до конца жизни :D

Today's blue is OPI Fly, which is actually a well-balanced vivid aqua crelly. It does have a fair amount of green in it, but it's still more blue than green on me, so, I guess, it qualifies :P 2 non-hassle coats here. I've got to warn you, it's a stainer, but it's so beautiful I don't care much, and my nails are under polish all the time anyway. Also, if you see it, grab it while you can, you'll decide if you need it later, because the evil people working with OPI have discontinued this beauty. 

Сегодняшний синий - это OPI Fly, сбалансированная яркая бирюза текстуры крем-желе. Зеленого в ней много, но на мне она все же более синяя, чем зеленая, так что считается :) на фото 2 беспроблемных слоя. Должна предупредить, что Fly окрашивает ногтевую пластину даже через базовый слой, но честно, я не парюсь, он слишком красив, да и голые ногти я уже год не ношу. Если увидите его, советую брать, особо не раздумывая, нужен ли он вам, решите потом: лак-то снятость, в OPI работают злые люди. 

But the real star of this manicure is, no doubt, Shimmer Julie. Anyone surprised by the fact I started swatching Shimmers with the samesake one (I still don't know if the creator included it intentionally or it was a happy coincidence :) )? Anyway, Julie is a glitterbomb and a stunner. There's silver, gold, aqua, red, copper and many other types of hex glitter of different sizes. I suggest that you just contemplate the macro photo for a couple of minutes, because words cannot describe it. The polish is very versatile, which is actually characteristic of all Shimmer polishes, so I did both accent fingers (2 coats with help) and glitter gradients with it, and that's how I'm going to show Shimmers to you. The glitter dries quite fast, it is a bit of a top coat eater (but name me a glitter that is not one), and removal using the foil method or a PVA-glue-based (also known as peel-off) basecoat should ensure it not to be a pain in the ass :) 

Но звезда этого маникюра, без сомнения. Shimmer Julie. Кто-то удивился, что обзоры я начала с лака-тезки (до сих пор не знаю, специально ли создательница бренда включила его в посылку или это просто приятное совпадение)? :) Julie - это потрясающая глиттерная бомба. Это шестиугольный глиттер разных размеров и цветов: серебряного, золотого, медного, красного, синего...В общем, предлагаю пару минут помедитировать на макро-фото, потому что словами это передать невозможно. Лак этот, как и другие Shimmer, можно использовать по-разному, поэтому я и соединила в одном маникюре 2 акцентных пальца, полностью покрытых глиттером (на фото по 2 слоя с подмазками), и глиттерные растяжки. Именно так я и в дальнейшем буду показывать Shimmerы. Сохнет он, как и большинство глиттеров, быстро, любит покушать топ (но назовите мне хоть один глиттер, который этого не делает), а снятие маникюра не станет большой проблемой, если использовать метод снятия лака при помощи фольги или же воспользоваться базой, основанной на клее ПВА (также известная как peel-off base) :)

Ocean & Frangipani

So this is a nail art I did for this contest. The task was to get inspired by provided pictures and do a manicure. When I first looked at the Pinterst board, I instantly fell with this pin, but I could resist mixing it with another one, as the flowers on it reminded me of my favorite kind - frangipani. The background, representing the ocean, is a gradient of Sally Hansen White On, Nubar Baby Blue and Faded Jeans, and the flowers were freehanded using the one-stroke technique and the Sally Hansen polish and China Glaze Happy Go Lucky. All topped with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat. 

Сегодня я покажу нейл-арт, который сделала для этого конкурса. Были предоставлены изображения, по мотивам которых и надо было придумать маникюр. Одна картинка мне понравилась сразу, но я не удержалась и смешала ее еще с одной, цветы на которой напомнили мне мои любимые - франжипани (они же плюмерия). Фоном, который представляет океан, служит градиент из Sally Hansen White On, Nubar Baby Blue и Faded Jeans, а цветы я нарисовала вручную в технике одного мазка и лаков White On и China Glaze Happy Go Lucky. Маникюр покрыт слоем сушки Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. 

The Lazy 15! Gradient / Movember Moustache manicure

Today's post is sort of a crossover between several blogging activities:

-The 31 Days Challenge I've been doing...well, let's say, not too consistently,

-November Polish Days, which theme is MAN-icure,

-and The Lazy 15! challenge i've signed up for, because i decided to drop the 31DC one. Since I'm not following the rules properly anyway, I thought I'd better redo that one if I ever have much spare time and moral strength to do nail art every day and enjoy it for only a day.

Этот пост посвящен маникюру для Polish Days ноября, тема которого - MAN-icure, поскольку ноябрь - месяц, в который все всячески пытаются привлечь внимание к проблемам мужского здоровья, а еще я читала, что в Канаде в начале ноября мужчины сбривают всю растительность на лице и отращивают весь месяц - оттуда и пошел популярный символ moustache, богатые такие усы. Также, я принимаю участие в меме The Lazy 15!, расписание и список тем которого приводится в конце поста. Ну и тема второго дня совпала с 10 днем месячного челленджа, который я все же решила бросить, т.к. правилам не следую, времени нет, чтобы каждый день делать нейл-арт, да и обидно же стирать так быстро! В общем, наш пострел везде поспел :)) 

Anyway, for this manicure I used Bourjois 18, which is a dusty blue with re-e-eally subtle shimmer running through it, China Glaze Swing Baby - a cool gold foil, a makeup sponge and a nail art brush to draw the moustache. I used a blue polish because my boyfriend once said blue was his favorite color, so this manicure is also dedicated to him :)

В этом маникюре я использовала Bourjois 18, джинсовый синий с едва уловимым серебряным шиммером, который в большинстве случаев почти не виден, China Glaze Swing Baby - холодную золотую фольгу, спонж для макияжа, чтобы сделать градиент, и кисточку для нейл-арта для того, чтобы нарисовать усы. 

Bourjois 18 is a very nice polish and is a one-coater, but the brush is killing me. It's angled and short, how am I supposed to paint my nails with it without flooding my poor culicles with nail polish?? Needless to say they were a hot mess after I applied the Bourjois polish, so I didn't worry about clean-up when I was doing the gradient - nothing worse could have been done to my fingers. I swear I'm going to find/buy an empty bottle for nail polish with a normal brush and pour the polish into it. As for Swing Baby, it's a two-coater, but applies easily and quite evenly.

Подробнее про лаки. К Bourjois 18 как к лаку у меня претензий нет: замечательный цвет, требует всего 1 слоя, сохнет быстро. Но кисточка - это просто орудие пыток. Она короткая и скошенная. В итоге, если на левой руке я еще умудрилась более-менее аккуратно накрасить ногти, то правая после покраса представляла собой худший кошмар лакоманьяка. Хорошо, что 18й не окрашивает кожу, синей кутикулы я бы не пережила. Что касается China Glaze Swing Baby, то это красивая фольга-двуслойник, ничего сверхъестественного, но в обращении приятна, если у вас нормальные отношения с кисточкой чайников.

31 days challenge. Day 3: yellow nails

Hi everyone! 

For day 3 i wanted to do something more than just paint my nails yellow. And then i remembered a manicure i saw a while ago and that i even have the same polishes that i've bought to recreate the manicure.

It's not entirely yellow, but i tried to leave at least 60% of the surface yellow. I'm using Misa Endless Keys and Misa Under My Sunbrella here, both are, respectively, warm yellow and tangerine orange shimmer/glimmer in correspondendly coloured jelly bases. They're not too opaque and i don't think they were meant to be. However, they open endless opportunities for layering, and this is exactly what i did here (i didn't use the sponge method for this gradient). 

For this manicure apply 2 coats of Under My Sunbrella over a base coat, then cover about half the nail (or more or less, depending on how do you want the colors to correlate) with Endless Keys, repeat on all nails, then cover your tips with another coat of Endless Keys, top it all with a coat of your favorite top coat (i'm using INM OTD, as usual) et voila!

3 down, 28 to go! Green nails tomorrow!
