Dance Legend Binary (select shades) swatches and review

CND's Vinylux are said to be a revolutionary product, remaining a regular nail polish, but formulated in such a way that, when used with the proper complementary top coat, it gets stronger and lasts longer. Sounds good, until you see the price - what Vinylux doesn't boat, at least in Russia, is a budget friendly price tag. It's a good thing that we have Dance Legend, who came out with an analog product, Dance Legend Binary collection. BarryM Gelly Sugar Apple swatches and review

After a week of cloudy and cold weather, usual even for Moscow at this time of year, the sun has finally decided to cheer us up and come out. So it feels very appropriate to show this polish to you today, for I know a lot of people consider such colors summer-y (although I wear them all year round!). 

После недели облачной и холодной даже для Москвы в начале сентября погоды, солнышко наконец решило порадовать нас и вышло из-за туч. Так что мне кажется очень уместным именно сегодня показать этот лак, поскольку многие такие цвета считают летними (хотя я-то их ношу круглый год!). 

Fridails: Inspired by Supernatural

Fridails has taken another spontaneous hiatus, but this week we're back!

We're working our way towards the end of the 31 days nail art challenge, and the prompt for this week was Inspired by Supernatural, one of the ones I was looking forward to doing the most. I chose to picture fairy wings on my nails, and here's the outcome!

After the boost of nail vitamins I went for something calmer, namely, Femme Fatale Cloudburst. It's quite difficult to describe this polish without confusing anyone - it seems like the look of this polish really depends on your skintone, so please mind that I have a warm undertone (MAC NW30).

После витаминного взрыва на ногтях мне захотелось чего-нибудь поспокойнее, и выбор пал на Femme Fatale Cloudburst. Этот лак довольно сложно описать, чтобы никого не ввести в заблуждение - то, как он смотрится на руках, очень зависит от тона кожи, так что имейте в виду, что я обладательница теплого подтона и достаточно темной для наших широт кожи (MAC NW30; зимой меня особенно часто спрашивают, не с югов ли я недавно вернулась или не хожу ли я в солярий))).

On me, Femme Fatale Cloudburst is a dusty blueish mint сrelly with neon pink, violet, black and white square glitter of various sizes as well as copper shimmer and occasional small golden hex glitter. 2 coats were enough for me, but if you're looking for a more opaque rather than light coverage, you may want to paint on 3, which isn't much of an issue, since the formula behaves well. I loved the contrast between the pastel base color and the bold-colored glitter as well the the subtle, adorable copper sparkle the shimmer provides. I needed 2 coats of top coat to smooth everything out, but the outcome was well worth it!

На мне Femme Fatale Cloudburst - припыленный голубовато-мятный крем-желе с неоновым розовым, фиолетовым, черным и белым квадратным глиттером разных размеров, медным шиммером и небольшим количеством золотых маленьких шестиугольников. 2 слоя для меня оказались достаточными, но если вы хотите добиться более плотного покрытия, в противовес более "воздушному", то, возможно, вам потребуется третий. Я в этом проблемы не вижу, поскольку по техническим характеристикам лак оказался послушным. Мне очень понравился контраст между пастельным базовым цветом и ярким глиттером, а также не бросающаяся в глаза, но все же заметная медная искринка шиммера. Для того, чтобы выровнять поверхность, я нанесла 2 слоя топа, но результат того стоит.

Sunday Stamping: Favorite Color Combo

It's been a while since I joined a Facebook group of people who love stamping, Adventures in Stamping. There are weekly challenges held by the group, promptly named "Sunday Stamping", since manis representing a chosen theme are posted on Sunday. I've wanted to participate for a long time, but I would always end up forgetting about it or being too busy. Finally, here's my first mani for this challenge. 

Довольно давно я присоединилась к группе в фейсбуке Adventures in Stamping, объединяющей людей, которые любят стемпинг. В группе проводятся еженедельные тематические дни, в которые участники выкладывают свои стемпинг-маникюры на выбранную тему. Все время я хотела тоже поучаствовать, но в итоге оказывалась либо слишком занятой, либо просто забывала. Сегодня, наконец, звезды сложились. 

The theme for this Sunday was "Favorite color combo". Now, as much as I like many color combinations, there's one that's outstanding to me. If I see something that's mint/turquoise and gold, consider me sold. 

В это воскресенье наша тема - любимое сочетание цветов. Мне многие комбинации нравятся, но есть одна самая любимая. Если вижу сочетание мяты/бирюзы и золота, то все, пиши пропало. 

For this mani I used 2 coats of A Study In Polish Mind Palace, a scattered blue mint holo (sady, that doesn't show up on the pics at all, because it was raining the entire day. I had to adjust the photos in Photoshop, because all of them were just very dark) as my base color, then stamped with Orly Solid Gold and Bundle Moster BM-311 staming plate. The look was sealed with a coat of Eva Glass Shine. 

Для маникюра я использовала 2 слоя A Study In Polish Mind Palace, рассеянный мятно-голубой голографик (чего, к сожалению, совершенно не видно на фото. Весь день шел дождь, и свет был отвратительный, пришлось подкручивать в фотошопе, потому что иначе было ничего не разобрать) в качестве базового цвета, стемпинг выполнен лаком Orly Solid Gold и диском для стемпинга Bundle Monster BM-311. Маникюр закрепила слоем сушки Eva Glass Shine.

Just Keep Swimming

I'm going to keep this post rather short. I'd intented to post my Darling Diva Polish swatches in the coming 3 days, however, I just had to post this today. As many of you probably know, a wonderful 13-year-old beauty blogger Talia passed away on Tuesday, ending her battle with cancer she led since she was 7. Bloggers all over the world unite today and honor her memory by sharing mint nails - the color of the last manicure she posted on Instagram. I have no words to express just how sad this all is. She had a full life ahead of her, so many things to learn and do, so much time to spend with her loved ones. Since I belive i reincarnation, I sincerely wish that her next life would be full of joy and happiness, and that she wouldn't have to suffer a bit of what her soul has already endured. 

Много писать здесь не буду. Изначально планировалось, что следующие 3 дня я буду показывать свотчи Darling Diva Polish, но потом все отошло на второй план. Во вторник стало известно, что боровшаяся с 7 лет с раком юная бьюти-блоггер Талия отошла в мир иной. Ей было всего 13. Дабы почтить ее память, блоггеры всего мира сегодня публикуют мятные маникюры - именно такого цвета были ногти на последней фотографии, которую Талия выложила в свой инстаграм. Слов, чтобы описать, как это все грустно, у меня нет. Всего 13, вся жизнь впереди, столько всего еще надо узнать и сделать, столько времени провести с любимыми..Я верю в реинкарнацию, поэтому от всей души желаю, чтобы следующая ее жизнь была наполнена счастьем, радостью, чтобы ей не пришлось перенести и толики того, что она выдержала в этой жизни. 

First I painted on 2 coats of Zoya Neely, waited for it to fully dry, isolated areas of nail surface with striping tape, then painted over with Zoya Vespa, and, finally, while it was still wet, removed the striping tape in reverse order to get crisper lines. I sealed the look with a coat of Eva Glass Shine topcoat.

Про маникюр совсем немного, если кому интересно. Здесь 2 слоя Zoya Neely, я дождалась, пока поверхность полностью высохнет, затем изолировала части покрытия лентой для нейл-арта, поверх нанесла слой Zoya Vespa и сразу же сняла с ногтя ленту в обратном порядке, чтобы линии получились более четкими. Сверху все покрыла слоем сушки Eva Glass Shine.

Minty skittles

Happy Valentine's Day everyone :) I'm not following the traditional color scheme, though, and doing one of my most favorite one - minty and gold. My base color is Zoya Bevin, a color that has been sitting in my stash for far too long, which is a minty/sage green that is dark and dusty enough to be comfortable for me to wear in winter. It's generally a 2-coater, although I did manage to get away with only one coat of it when I had to repaint my ring finger (I messed up the first stamping attempt). The gold on my middle and thumb fingers is A-england Holy Grail (the new version), and stamped on my ring finger is China Glaze Swanky Silk (Holy Grail's failed to transfer the image well). The studs and the striping tape are from Born Pretty Store, and I sealed everything with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. 

Всех с Днем Святого Валентина :) Традиционную цветовую схему я не соблюла и сделала маникюр в своей любимой - мята с золотом. Моя база - Zoy Bevin, лак, который слишком долго находился в моей коллекции и ни разу не был использован, припыленного мятного цвета. Достаточно темный и пыльный, чтобы я чувствовала в нем себя комфортно даже зимой. Вообще-то он двухслойник, но на безымянном пальце, который пришлось перекрашивать из-за того, что с первого раза не получилось перенести на него узор, я умудрилась уложить его в один. Золотой на среднем и большом пальцах - A-england Holy Grail (новая версия), стемпинг сделан China Glaze Swanky Silk. Квадратные клепки и ленту для нейл-арта я купила в Born Pretty Store; маникюр весь закрепила слоем сушки Sally Hansen Insta-Dri.

I adore how well the colors work together, although I should have liked if the stamped image had been more apparent. I've always been a bit hesistant about skittles, and I'm never sure about what would work well together, but I'm surprised by how much I'm into this look, and I can see myself wearing skittles again. I guess it's worth mentioning that I've got plenty of compliments on my nails, although my friends've told me they'd thought there wasn't anything left I could surprise them with. I was glad to have proved that wrong :P This is also my entry for Sincerely Stephanie's Skittles nail art contest, wish me luck! 

Я, честно, в восторге от того, как сочетаются друг с другом цвета, хотя я бы хотела, чтобы стемпинг был лучше виден. К маникюрам skittles я всегда относилась с осторожностью, поскольку сама никогда не уверена в том, что будет хорошо смотреться вместе, но я приятно удивлена тем, как мне нравится результат. Думаю, стоит упомянуть о том, что я получила множество комплиментов моему маникюру, хотя мои друзья уже говорили мне, что они думали, что уже не осталось ничего в мире ногтей, чем бы я могла их удивить. Приятно было доказать неверность этого утверждения :P С этим маникюром я участвую в нейл-арт конкурсе Sincerely Stephanie, так что пожелайте мне удачи!

A fashion inspired manicure

I'd like to start by doing a small roundup of all giveaways I know of and am participating in. Now onto the actual post. I've entered Wacky Laki's contest, the task was to create a fashion-inspired manicure. I scanned spring 2013 trends and picked the seafoam green one (like if you had doubts :D). Namely, I drew inspiration from the skirt the second model from the right is wearing on the picture below.

Теперь к самому посту. Я участвую в конкурсе Wacky Laki, заданием которого было создать маникюр, вдохновленный модой. Я изучила тренды будущей весны и остановилась на (кто бы сомневался :)) цветовом: зеленая мята снова в моде, ура! В частности, я вдохновилась юбкой второй модели справа. 

As you may have guessed, my undie for the nail art is Cult Nails Manipulative, previously reviewed here. I used quite a lot of striping tape and Chanel Particuliere for the brown stripes. I let it all dry and finished off with a coat of INM OTD (had to be really careful with that, because it's prone to smudging your pretty nail art due to its being thin). You can see the result below. I'm quite fond of the color combination and the overall look, although I fear the look is not comlex enough to win (yes, I am ambitious and I don't think there's anything wrong with that :) Ambitions make us grow, to my mind), and I'm more than sure that many mani gurus are taking part, but when I come to think of all the wonderful manis we're about to see, every else thought seems to vanish :)

Как вы наверняка догадались, базовым цветом выступил Cult Nails Manipulative, который я показывала и о котором рассказывала здесь. Я использовала приличное количество striping tape (мамочки, как это перевести-то? Клейкая лента для маникюра? %)) и Chanel Particuliere. Когда все высохло, я покрыла маникюр слоем INM OTD, и здесь надо быть очень осторожной, поскольку, из-за своей жидкости и тонкости, этот топ так и норовит смазать нейл-арт, особенно если он красивый :D Маникюр мне нравится как в целом, так и своим цветовым сочетанием в особенности, хотя я боюсь, что он недостаточно сложен, чтобы победить (да, я достаточно амбициозна, не считаю, что это плохо :) Считаю, что амбиции - тот фактор, который заставляет нас расти и совершенствоваться). Я больше чем уверена, что в этом конкурсе примут участие многие гуру маникюра, и на победу надеюсь лишь мечтой оптимиста, но как подумаю о том, сколько мы увидим красивейших маникюров..ух, аж дух захватывает, и чуть рифмой не заговорила :)

The Lazy 15! Water Marble

Today's theme is water marbling, which I've never tried before. I knew I didn't want to do the flower design, which seems to be the most popular option. Instead, I googled pics of malachite and drew inspiration from them. 

Сегодня тема The Lazy 15! - мраморизация, или стилизация под мрамор. Один из самых популярных дизайнов этой техники нейл арта - "цветок", так что я сразу решила, что его делать не буду :D Зато я прогуглила фотографии малахита и вдохновилась ими.

I don't mean to be arrogant, but I simply adore this manicure, and I'm very glad the nest theme is only on Monday, which means I'm getting to enjoy my stone nails for a few days :3

Это, конечно, называется "пока сам себя не похвалишь - никто не похвалит", но я от маникюра в восторге. Радует, что следующая тема - только в понедельник, так что этот маникюр удастся поносить подольше :)

Only 2 photos, sorry, I didn't like the majority of those I took, and it was already dark outside when I got down to sorting out them. The first one is my left hand, and the second is my right one. Actually, I like how the right hand came out more, because when I figured out which motions I should do with my hands to achieve the desired look I'd already done the entire left hand :D I do think, though, that my nails resemble the inspiration stone. 

Сегодня всего 2 фотографии, потому что они единственные, которые меня устраивали по качеству, а когда я, наконец, отсортировала снимки, на улице уже стемнело, так что переснять маникюр не получилось. Первая фотография соответствует левой руке, вторая - правой. Дизайн на второй мне, честно говоря, нравится больше, поскольку пока я экспериментальным образом выяснила, какие движения надо совершать, чтобы получался тот эффект, которого я хотела, я сделала уже всю левую руку :D Но, по-моему, на камень получилось похоже :)

Fishtail accent nail mint manicure

As you may have noticed, there are some changes in my blog: i redesigned it, added Disclosure policy, Contact me page and a link to my stash database (I spent 2 days on it, ugh, I hadn't realised i have that much nail polish!). I'm also going to add social media buttons this week & create pages for my blog everywhere, so, if you like it, please follow!

I've been meaning to post this one for a while, but life has been so hectuc lately, so i only got around to it now. 

I've been eyeing fishtail braid manicure (Lucy of Lucy's Stash originally came up with the awesome idea and it has been used widely since) for a long time, but i was hesistant to try it out for some reason. About a week ago i kicked myself, used one of my dresses for color scheme inspiration and set off :)

The participants of this manicure are:

Essie Mint Candy Apple, Chanel Rose Confidentiel, Essie Case Study 

I'd like to justify Essie Mint Candy Apple first. I've read a lot of nasty things about it, how the formula is too thick, goopy, and overall awful and unmanageable. On the contrary, I found the polish to be a wonderful pigmented 2 coater, even 1 coater if you do thicker coats and are careful while maneuvring the brush. As I bought my bottle of Mint Candy Apple offline, it came with the wide brush, and I actually liked it better than the 'regular' thin one that the rest of my Essies have. I didn't have to do any cleanup after painting my nails, by the way! 

Now, onto the fun part. I wanted to actually wear Mint Candy Apple but still try out the fishtail technique, so i went for accent nail! More pics under the cut.

By the way, the fabric i'm using as a background here is actually the dress I used as inspiration! It fits me perfectly, and I received lots of compliments on the look (both overall and the nails. Even the guys in my group noticed them, which speaks for itself!)
