Fridails: Inspired by Supernatural

Fridails has taken another spontaneous hiatus, but this week we're back!

We're working our way towards the end of the 31 days nail art challenge, and the prompt for this week was Inspired by Supernatural, one of the ones I was looking forward to doing the most. I chose to picture fairy wings on my nails, and here's the outcome!

A-England Saint George swatches & review

Actually I was certain I'd already reviewed this polish on the blog, but turns out I was wrong. Which is for the better, because I didn't really know what to do, just refer you to the existing post and post some more photos here or write a full review here. 

На самом деле я была уверена, что уже показывала этот лак в блоге, но вышло так, что я ошиблась. Оно и к лучшему, потому что я не совсем понимала, что делать в этой ситуации - то ли направлять вас в уже существующий пост, а здесь просто запостить новые свотчи, то ли по-новой писать обзор (но с прошлого раза ничего не поменялось, так что я бы просто повторила сама себя).

Anyway, A-England Saint George is a saturated teal suble scattered holo withs such a strong green underdone that under some lightings the polish may even look closer to emerald green. It's a very rich, jewel-like color that applies like a dream. Only one coat over aqua base coat and I was done! Due to the amount of pigment in the polish, it's prone to leaving the skin around the nails slightly green upon removal, but nothing you can't eliminate by simple washing your hands thoroughly. It dries to a very glossy finish, so if you don't want to risk killing the holo effect by applying top coat, feel free to skip on it - formula is quite fast drying, too. 

В общем, A-England Saint George - это ненавязчивый рассеянный голографик тилового цвета с сильным зеленым подтоном. Доля зеленого в базе настолько велика, что в определенном освещении лак может показаться скорее изумудным, терять свою синюю составляющую. Цвет очень богатый, напоминающий о драгоценных камнях, а уж технические характеристики идеальны. На фото - всего один слой на аква-базу, и мне его вполне хватило. Обратная сторона медали такой пигментированности в том, что лак склонен слегка окрашивать кожу вокруг ногтей при снятии, но проблема решается тщательным мытьем рук. Обладает хорошим собственным глянцем, сохнет быстро, так что если вы боитесь убить довольно сдержанную голографию топом, его можно не использовать.

Monday Blues: A-england Galahad

For this week's Monday Blues i have a solid cream I've already shown here, but I don't like the quality of the photos now, and I was wearing the color again anyway, so I decided to reswatch. Here's ONE coat of A-england Galahad without top coat. Just stop and stare, this polish is perfection.

Indie: Nail Art

So a while ago Kayla from Nails by Kayla Shevonne announced a nail art contest, the theme being "indie polish", with a mandatory condition to use a least one indie polish in your design. I love contests, much more than giveaways, to be honest, as whether or not you will win depends on you rather than  odds.
Некоторое время назад Кайла, автор блога Nails by Kayla Shevonne, объявила о конкурсе нейл-арта в своем блоге, темой которого стали инди-лаки, а обязательным условием - использовать хотя бы один из них в маникюре. Хотелось бы оговориться, что конкурсы я люблю больше, например, розыгрышей, поскольку победа зависит от вас, а не от рандомайзера. 

And so I sat down, thinking of what my entry could be. I'm not really the complex nail art kind of girl: I can't freehand anything more than a stripe, let alone pictures on nails we sometimes see from some ladies who are far more talented at drawing and painting than me (sigh...I've always wanted to be able to draw in a pretty way). Anyway, I remembered that, when I was young and ignorant and first read that there was such thing as "indie" polish, I thought it had something to do with India. It took me some googling to fix my mistake, but now I'm actually glad I'd once made it, because it provided me with the perfect nail art inspiration.
Итак, стала я думать, что бы такое вытворить. Сложный нейл-арт как вариант не принимается, я этого просто не умею и не могу, природа художественным талантом обидела, а так бы хотелось уметь рисовать картины на ногтях :( Да и не только на них. В общем, в творческом поиске я пришла к своей ошибке. Когда я была молодым и наивным лакоманьяком и в первый раз увидела в интернетах, что бывают какие-то инди-лаки, я подумала, что они, должно быть, как что связаны с Индией. Выделяют же индийский кинопром как Bollywood. Гугл меня просветил, но сейчас я рада, .что когда-то вот так неправильно поняла термин, ведь именно эта ошибка, в конечном итоге, и вдохновила меня.

I used a coat of A-england St George, waited for it to dry, then isolated the triangle areas I wanted to be covered by Picture Polish Peacock with striping tape, and applied a coat of it within the lines created by the tape, almost immediately removing the latter, since that ensures crisper edges. The gold is some gel pen I found in my drawers, I remember using those some...8 years ago, maybe? It's a dinosaur pen :P I freehanded the dots and the insription in Hindi (which means "peacock" in English, by the way). I finished off everything with a coat of Nubar Diamont top coat.
Маникюр я начала со слоя A-england St George, дождалась высыхания поверхности, после чего лентой для нейл-арта отделила на ногтях треугольники, которые заполнила слоем Picture Polish Peacock, ленту снимая почти сразу после нанесения последнего лака, чтобы получить более четкие стороны треугольников. Золотые элементы маникюра были нарисованы от руки гелевой ручкой-динозавром, которую я откопала в ящиках письменного стола. Помнится, такими я пользовалась лет 8 назад...Кстати, надпись на среднем пальце с хинди переводится как "павлин" (или, по-английски, peacock). Сверху все покрыла слоем топа Nubar Diamont. 

Minty skittles

Happy Valentine's Day everyone :) I'm not following the traditional color scheme, though, and doing one of my most favorite one - minty and gold. My base color is Zoya Bevin, a color that has been sitting in my stash for far too long, which is a minty/sage green that is dark and dusty enough to be comfortable for me to wear in winter. It's generally a 2-coater, although I did manage to get away with only one coat of it when I had to repaint my ring finger (I messed up the first stamping attempt). The gold on my middle and thumb fingers is A-england Holy Grail (the new version), and stamped on my ring finger is China Glaze Swanky Silk (Holy Grail's failed to transfer the image well). The studs and the striping tape are from Born Pretty Store, and I sealed everything with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. 

Всех с Днем Святого Валентина :) Традиционную цветовую схему я не соблюла и сделала маникюр в своей любимой - мята с золотом. Моя база - Zoy Bevin, лак, который слишком долго находился в моей коллекции и ни разу не был использован, припыленного мятного цвета. Достаточно темный и пыльный, чтобы я чувствовала в нем себя комфортно даже зимой. Вообще-то он двухслойник, но на безымянном пальце, который пришлось перекрашивать из-за того, что с первого раза не получилось перенести на него узор, я умудрилась уложить его в один. Золотой на среднем и большом пальцах - A-england Holy Grail (новая версия), стемпинг сделан China Glaze Swanky Silk. Квадратные клепки и ленту для нейл-арта я купила в Born Pretty Store; маникюр весь закрепила слоем сушки Sally Hansen Insta-Dri.

I adore how well the colors work together, although I should have liked if the stamped image had been more apparent. I've always been a bit hesistant about skittles, and I'm never sure about what would work well together, but I'm surprised by how much I'm into this look, and I can see myself wearing skittles again. I guess it's worth mentioning that I've got plenty of compliments on my nails, although my friends've told me they'd thought there wasn't anything left I could surprise them with. I was glad to have proved that wrong :P This is also my entry for Sincerely Stephanie's Skittles nail art contest, wish me luck! 

Я, честно, в восторге от того, как сочетаются друг с другом цвета, хотя я бы хотела, чтобы стемпинг был лучше виден. К маникюрам skittles я всегда относилась с осторожностью, поскольку сама никогда не уверена в том, что будет хорошо смотреться вместе, но я приятно удивлена тем, как мне нравится результат. Думаю, стоит упомянуть о том, что я получила множество комплиментов моему маникюру, хотя мои друзья уже говорили мне, что они думали, что уже не осталось ничего в мире ногтей, чем бы я могла их удивить. Приятно было доказать неверность этого утверждения :P С этим маникюром я участвую в нейл-арт конкурсе Sincerely Stephanie, так что пожелайте мне удачи!

The big brush comparison

So when I was discussing Cuccio's brush in my Dubai Me An Island review I thought it would be great to do a photo brush comparison, because some things are better to be seen than described. I'm not going to talk much in this post, because the pictures pretty much speak for themselves. 

Когда я писала обзор на Cuccio Dubai Me An Island и, в частности, касалась такого аспекта, как кисть, я подумала, что неплохо было бы сравнить ее с кистями лаков других фирм и задокументировать это все, поскольку некоторые вещи лучше увидеть, чем прочитать длинное и зачастую нудное описание. Так что долго я в этом посте говорить не буду, фотографии, по-моему, говорят сами за себя.

All in all the Cuccio brush is easy to control, it's more narrow than the OPI one, but wide enough to be able to cover a nail with one stroke (if your mail beds are narrower, too, i personally prefer the 3-stroke method), it's evenly cut and is flexible but not too soft. 

В целом, кисточку Cuccio легко контролировать. Она уже кисти OPI, но достаточно широка, чтобы перекрывать ногтевое ложе с одного мазка (если оно у вас достаточно узкое, разумеется, я лично все же предпочитаю покрывать ногти лаком 3 мазками). Кисть ровно острижена и достаточно эластична, но при этом не чересчур мягкая.

The Lazy 15! Feminine Nails

This is the second post for today, and it features feminine nails. I had a hard time with this theme, since painting nails itself is usually considered feminine, so, basically, it was an open theme. In the end, I went for soft colors and a simple pattern. I'm really enjoying stamping - fast, easy, and the result is gorgeous as long as your polish is opaque enough!

Вот и второй пост за сегодня, и тема его - женственные ногти. Немного странно, на самом деле, поскольку в принципе накрашенные ногти ассоциируются с женственностью. Получилась открытая тема, твори, что хочешь. В итоге я выбрала мягкие цвета и лаконичный узор. Мне очень нравится стемпинг - быстро, легко, а результат всегда замечательный, если вы используете достаточно пигментированный лак.

The base color for this manicure is A-england Guinevre, a dusty lavender creme completely opaque in 2 thin coats, although you can do a thicker one coat and you'll be well off with it. It dries quite fast and shines just fine on its own, but I still used a coat of INM OTD to make it dry even faster (I was impatient to stamp on it!) plus preserve the base color, in case i messed up the stamping. Then I stamped with Gabrini 322 (swatched here), a great silver foil, and finished the manicure with another coat of INM OTD.

Базой для этого маникюра послужила прекрасная A-england Guinevre. Это чудесный пыльный лавандовый крем, полностью непрозрачен в 2 тонкий слоя или один толстенький. Сохнет сам по себе быстро, имеет крутой глянец, но я все равно покрыла сверху слоем INM OTD, чтобы он высох еще быстрее (конадить быстрее хотелось! :)) и чтобы, если что, можно было стереть кривой конад и не повредить цвет (весьма предусмотрительно, надо сказать, 2 ногтя пришлось переделывать). Затем я стемпила Gabrini 322, это серебряная фольга, которую я уже показывала здесь (пост без перевода), и закрепила все еще одним слоем INM OTD. 

A close friend of mine's celebrating her birthday tonight, and I'm going to pair these nails with a black lace dress from Zara...I hope they'll mix together.

Сегодня моя близкая подруга празднует день рождения, надеюсь, что с тем черным кружевным платьем, которое я собираюсь одеть, этот маникюр сыграет.

A-england Galahad swatches & review

This week has been really busy, i've painted and taken photos of my nails, but simply couldn't find the time to write a post, it's so sad! But at least now i have some stockings :)

Before i turn to the nail polish, i'd like to let you know about 2 awesome giveaways held at the moment, one by Peace, Love and Polish, another by Nail Polish Anon.

I've heard a lot of great things about a-england nail polishes. It's always seemed to be that if there was one indie company each nail blogger should have a nail polish by in their collection, it would be a-england. The only downside i've read about was the rather long dry time, but you were compensated with astonishing pigmentation and colors.

Yet, speaking honestly, i found and still find the regular price of a-england nail polishes too high, but i nevertheless wanted them! So when Adina had a sale a while ago, and all polishes from The Mythicals collection were discounted by 50%, i squeed with joy and rushed to order some gems from it. My order included Galahad. It's worth mentioning that Galahad is one of my favorite Knights, and i love the turquoise color, so i was really looking forward to this polish!

Of course, you must have already seen gazillion of swatches of this beauty, so i didn't focus on the photos this time, and decided that i'd better told you about my impression.

Galahad is a nice 1 to 2 coater cream, depending on how thin coats you're doing. It's very pigmented, beautiful turquoise, very name-appropriate. Also very glossy, i'm wearing it with INM OTD here, but i honestly couldn't see the difference between the natural gloss of the lacquer and when it was enhanced by OTD. I associate this color with purity, dignity, virtue, and i couldn't stop staring at my nails the day i wore it.

Unfortunately, not only the dry time was quite long, as expected, but it turns out that a-england chips quite fast on me. I've tried Tristam an Galahad on so far, and both of them chipped after only 1,5 days of wear. I usually expect my nail polish to last at least 2 days on me, but you know what? The color are so wonderful i don't care, i will repaint my nails every day if that's what it takes me to wear a-england.

To sum it up, a-england is an awesome brand, and its polishes leave a general great impression. I with the price tag wasn't so stingy, but i can hope that Adina will hold a sale of the Legends sometime. If that moment ever comes, my avoirs will start to sing romances :D
