Sunday Stamping: Favorite Color Combo

Hey everyone!

It's been a while since I joined a Facebook group of people who love stamping, Adventures in Stamping. There are weekly challenges held by the group, promptly named "Sunday Stamping", since manis representing a chosen theme are posted on Sunday. I've wanted to participate for a long time, but I would always end up forgetting about it or being too busy. Finally, here's my first mani for this challenge.

The theme for this Sunday was "Favorite color combo". Now, as much as I like many color combinations, there's one that's outstanding to me. If I see something that's mint/turquoise and gold, consider me sold.

For this mani I used 2 coats of A Study In Polish Mind Palace, a scattered blue mint holo (sady, that doesn't show up on the pics at all, because it was raining the entire day. I had to adjust the photos in Photoshop, because all of them were just very dark) as my base color, then stamped with Orly Solid Gold and Bundle Moster BM-311 staming plate. The look was sealed with a coat of Eva Glass Shine.
A Study In Polish Mind Palace, Eva Glass Shine.

  • Basecoat | База: Dance Legend Nesloin
  • Polish | Лак: Orly Solid Gold, stamped | стемпинг
  • Undie | Подложка: A Study In Polish Mind Palace, 2 coats | 2 слоя
Bundle Monster BM-311

    Polish Days February: Aurora Borealis

    Hey everyone!

I know I'm a bit late for the Polish Days of February, but we're still allowed to submit our manis even 2 days after the deadline, and I'm taking advantage of that this time :3 I'm extremely sorry for my current nail shape, but they were breaking like crazy when I was in Finland, which resulted into those uneven nubs (since my nail beds are of different length, my nubs are like that, too).

As the theme of Polish Days February was Back To Nature, I drew inspiration from a natural phenomenon I wanted to see badly in Finland, but didn't get to, because, apparently, there were no magnet storms going on at the time. I'm talking about Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights. To recreate the look of it on my nails, I started with 2 coats of a dark blue cream base (China Glaze Calypso Blue) and water marbled with Orly It's Not Rocket Science, Orly Galaxy Girl and Revlon Grape Fizz (that actually smells like the grape chewing gum I love).
Orly It's Not Rocket Science, Orly Galaxy Girl

Saran wrap manicure: guest post from Mihaela of Lacquer Buzz

    Hey everyone!

Unfortunately, I don't have any time to blog properly these days, because of exams at university. I've been wearing the same polish for the past 6 days, which is a record for me (Cirque French Roast, namely. I'll blog about it once I have a bit more time or when I pass my exams). And on January, 27 I'm going to Finland for 10 days, and I don't think I'll be able to blog from there, either, so I need some guest posts. If you're a blogger and write about nails (your blog doesn't have to be only about them) and if you're interested in being a guest poster on Vicerimus, please shoot me an e-mail at vicerimus@gmail.com so that we could discuss the matters.

Today I'm having the first guest post in this blog, kindly written by Mihaela from Lacquer Buzz. A little while ago I asked for guest posts in a facebook group, and Mihaela was very quick to respond, and here's her post up. Without further words, please give her a warm welcome!

The English version is by Mihaela while the Russian translation is provided by me so that my Russian-speaking readers could enjoy the post equally.
    ___________________________________________________________________________________

Hello lovely readers! My name is Mihaela and I run the blog Lacquer Buzz. I'm a nail polish and nail art enthusiast from Romania, a country that is not far from Yulia's country. We are almost neighbors. I was very impressed when I found her blog because her photos are amazing and she really deserves a lot more followers. When I read that she was looking for guest posters, I immediately emailed her. This is the first time I do a guest post on somebody's blog and I'm really happy that it's Yulia's. Her style is very elegant and classy, so I chose to do something that I thought would fit. Here's what I came up with.

I did this manicure using saran wrap, which is that plastic wrap people use to wrap their food in. This type of nail art has been very popular lately and I really love it. To achieve this look I used two polishes: my favorite polish of all time, China Glaze First Mate and another big favorite, Orly Rage.
Orly Rage.

I started with 2 coats of First Mate and after it dried completely, I painted one coat of Rage. Using a small piece of randomly crumpled saran wrap, I began taking off some of the Orly polish from the nail, which led to sort of a mosaic effect. I then used some top coat to make everything smooth. There are a few things you have to keep in mind when doing this sort of manicure. First, you have to work really fast! You have to do only one nail at a time and use the saran very fast, or else the polish on top will start drying and the saran wrap will take off both polishes together and create a bald spot. Secondly, patience is key. This might look pretty random, but it takes more time than some other, more precise types of nail art.

I really hope you like this manicure as much as I do. The mix of navy and rose gold is just so pretty and elegant in my opinion. If you enjoyed this, please come and visit me in my little corner of the Internet. Meanwhile, I'd really like to thank Yulia for having me over. It was a pleasure!

Thanks a ton, Mihaela. I adore this manicure, saran wrap technique is something I've been wanting to try for a long time, and you've just motivated me towards it even more! I guess I know what my first nail art after exams will be! To me lovely readers, I highly encourage you to visit Mihaela's awesome blog and follow her on her social media!

I'm a participant, and if you like my entry, please vote for me, I could really use some support, though it's completely up to you! :) The voting is posted here, and you can see the full post dedicated to my manicure for this contest here.

Apart from that, there's another awesome giveaway going on and it's open internationally @ drincitra's blog. Be sure to check it out!.

Moving on to the post itself, today it's a review and swatches of Orly Space Cadet, which was released in Fall 2010 Cosmic FX collection. I'm going to tell you straight away that it's not a completely positive review, for the first time on this blog, but this is solely my experience and you may have a completely different view on this polish. I'm not telling you in any way that this polish is bad, I'm only describing what I liked and what I didn't. Like they say, one man's meat is another man's poison :) Maybe this disclaimer was unnecessary, but, as I've stated above, I've never written a non-positive review before, so I felt I had to solve out those issues.

Space Cadet is indeed an ambiguous one. Shifting from cold pink to gold to green multichrome glimmer in a sheer somewhat dirty, swampy green base, it took me 3 coats to eliminate visible nail line.
Dry time was very long, I finished the manicure off with a coat of INM OTD, and two and a half hours later the polish was still dentible! In addition, longevility was far from great - in less than two days I had some terrible chips on both of my hands, and the ends of the nails didn't seem to last more than several hours of wear.

The general impression about this polish: it's weird. First of all, in terms of colors. There is a type of nail polish you either instantly love or hate, so-called ugly beautiful. I really liked the polish under artificial warm lighting and when I was taking photos (the sun was setting at the moment, so there's more gold than there usually is), and wasn't fond of it at all under the rest of lightings. I blame the base color - hadn't it been so...off, to my mind, I could have loved this polish. I really wanted to keep it, because of its look under artificial lighting, because it's multichrome, because I'm sure a couple more years will pass and it'll become hard to find (becuase companies are always discontinuing the most interesting polish. Think OPI Suede - I've just payed $20 for a bottle of We'll Always Have Paris Suede on evilbay, Illamasqua Raindrops, Essie Starry Starry Nights and many, many more), because I wanted to love it. I even tried it as a layering polish, but the glimmer is too strong, it overpowers the undie. I ended up deciding to sell it, and it's coming up in the blog sale when I've finally sorted out my nail polish collection.
We'll Always have Paris,

ETA: So Chow mama seems to have just saved the polish for me! She suggested that I tried it over some green cream, and it gave the polish the depth I felt it was lacking ^_^ I'm keeping my Space Cadet at least until spring and giving it another chance then.

    The Lazy 15! Galaxy Nails

    Hey everyone!

Today I'm doing Galaxy Nails. Geez, galaxies look easier to execute than they actually are! Or, maybe, that's because I had to file my nails down again, and I have NO length for them to blossom out. Anyway, I don't think they actually look like galaxies, more like unicorn puke :D Pretty, but not quite representing the theme.

    List of used polishes:
-Base color: 2 coats of Orly Androgynie
-Randomly sponged with (наносила спонжем в произвольном порядке): Orly It's Not Rocket Science, Galaxy Girl, Halley's Comet
-1 coat of INM OTD (слой INM OTD)

    The Lazy 15! Water Marble

    Hey everyone!

Today's theme is water marbling, which I've never tried before. I knew I didn't want to do the flower design, which seems to be the most popular option. Instead, I googled pics of malachite and drew inspiration from them.
Сегодня тема The Lazy 15!

I don't mean to be arrogant, but I simply adore this manicure, and I'm very glad the nest theme is only on Monday, which means I'm getting to enjoy my stone nails for a few days :3

    List of used nail polishes:
    -OPI Ski Teal We Drop
    -Orly Lucky Duck
-Catrice Sold Out For Ever (a birthday gift from my dear alwaysdevoted, thank you again, sweetie, i'm loving it!)

Only 2 photos, sorry, I didn't like the majority of those I took, and it was already dark outside when I got down to sorting out them. The first one is my left hand, and the second is my right one. Actually, I like how the right hand came out more, because when I figured out which motions I should do with my hands to achieve the desired look I'd already done the entire left hand :D I do think, though, that my nails resemble the inspiration stone.

Karma Duty series. Comparison of teals: Nubar Stylish Peacock vs. Orly Sapphire Silk vs. OPI Ski Teal We Drop

    Hi everyone!

I was supposed to post a black&white nail art, but I kind of messed that up so I'm going to redo it, and for now I have a comparison for you. Personally I love this kind of posts, so I hope you'll enjoy it, too.

So this was actually inspired by a lady from a Russian LiveJournal nail community, who requested a comparison between Nubar Stylish Peacock and OPI Ski Teal We Drop. It was actually so long ago even I don't remember. As my 18th birthday is approaching (it's tomorrow!), i'm cleaning up all my karma duties :)

The moment I pulled out the bottles out of my stash, I knew they were nowhere the same or even similar (well, to us, polish addicts, that is). So i decided to compare them to another teal I have in my collection, that is Orly Sapphire Silk.

By the way, I couldn't believe my eyes, but I only have 3 teal creams in my shash! The advantage is that that means I can order more without feeling ashamed of it :D

Onto the comparison, here's a bottle comparison pic.

More photos and some text under the cut :)

31 days challenge. Day 6: violet nails

Ok, so i kind of failed the 'paint your nails every day' challenge, but as the pattern part is coming it's getting challenging enough for me, since i have really unsteady hands. Plus the law school and social life - now i actually have some, the leadership camp has brought me a new boyfriend! Anyway, i decided to take it easy and repaint my nails at a usual pace and actually enjoy the nail art i'm about to do. Now that supplies from Born Pretty Store have arrived, i can do some looks i've been looking forward to.

As for now, here are my violet nails. I did them the day i returned from the leadership camp i was a staff member at, having slept only 2 hours that night, so imagine how exhausted i was and please forgive the not-the-most-accurate way i applied nail polish that time.

I used 2 coats of Orly Fowl Play from Birds of a Feather collection. It's a gorgeous purple jelly base filled with copper and blue flakies and silver glimmer.

I had to use flash to take these photos 'cause it was already dark outside, and i don't have a lightbox yet, but this way you can see best just how gorgeous this polish is.

Please click on the photos to enlarge them and appreciate the texture.

     6 down, 25 to go!

Chaotic dotticure: Zoya Tru and Orly Oui

This is my second attempt at participating in a nail art contest, this time for Polish days. This September's theme is Geometry, and i actually had a completely different idea in mind, but i didn't have much time yesterday, so i needed something quicker.

As i was terrible at geometry in school, i thought that something messy, in no particular order would suit me. So i painted my nails with Zoya Tru, a gorgeous purple with subtle copperish shimmer flecks, and dotted randomly with Orly Oui.

Polish and money tree - more money, more polish! :D

    Geometrical manicure v.2

    Hi everyone :)

This is the other geometrical manicure i did before going to Malta. I like it much more than the first one, to be honest :) I loved the color combination & it was my travel mani, too, so it lasted about 5 days on me - a record!

I used Nubar Baby Blue, Nubar Faded Jeans and Orly Prelude To A Kiss to create it. The last two pics are more color accurate, as they were taken outside in the natural light, while the first two - in a cafe with artificial warm light, at it was quite dim there, but i love the photos nonetheless. Thanks go to my bestie Veronika for taking the photos for me :)

Orly Nite Owl swatches & review

Nite Owl is a well-known and appreciated nail polish. It's modest enough to be worn at work but its shimmer gives it a quirky twist. I wore it to my last exam, when i couldn't take bare nails anymore but still couldn't paint my nails crazy colors [which i adore] so as not to draw much attention to myself :)

2 coats with a coat of INM Out The door on all the pictures below :)

Application is very easy, i didn't experience any problems with it. It's opaque enough to get away with just one coat, but i prefer 2 for more density. However, it chipped pretty fast on me, so i wouldn't expect a week of wear with this one. Still, i adore this polish and i can see myself using it over and over again :)

And that's it for today, take care, sweeties :*
